Effects of supports on movement of roof and floor in longwall faces
Lateral movement between roof and floor is dependent on type of packing in goaf; roof experiences maximum tilt during cutting and drawing period; face and roof on longwall coal-face moves towards waste relative to floor; lateral movements of top and bottom of supports should be as far as possible same as lateral movement between roof and floor; in cases of soft floors sole plate of suitable dimensions improves efficiency of supporting system.
