Rapid development of longwall retreating in submarine area of Sydney coalfield of Nova Scotia
Changeover from longwall advancing to retreat system was conducted under deep cover conditions, with emphasis on problems of ventilation and soft roof and floor conditions; roadways at 1000 ft of cover were acceptably stable to permit successfull longwall retreat extraction; convergence of roof and floor strata during roadway development was much greater at another mine under 2500 ft of cover.
