Shock-isolating backpacking materials, review of state of art
From review of types and effects of nuclear blast loading on buried structures, basic design criteria for backpacking materials was established and is reviewed along with techniques used in determining energy-absorbing characteristics of backpacking materials; example is developed to show how materials, when placed around buried structures, will absorb portion of applied shock energy thereby reducing forces which reach structure; various programs in development of such materials as foamed plastics, honeycombs, insulating concretes, granular materials, and other similar materials which could be adequately used as backpacking are reviewed.
