A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Serious engineering problems associated with projected new World Trade Center structures in New York City, are outlined; techniques for developing adequate foundations in area that is located west of original Manhattan Island shoreline in deep clays and organic silts which overlay bedrock situated 60 to 70 ft below surface are discussed; innovations required in steel construction caused by unprecedented height of buildings.
