Forth road bridge
Design and construction of bridge in Scotland linking road traffic in Fife and North with Edinburgh and Lowlands and claimed to be largest suspension bridge in Europe are described; design provided for suspension bridge with central span of 3300 ft and side spans of 1340 ft, carrying dual 24-ft wide roadways with 9-ft cycle track and 6-ft footpath cantilevered out on each side; cables are 2 ft in diam; main towers extend 512 ft above mean river level.
