Orthotropic bridges -- Deck must be welded
Longest orthotropic steel plate deck welded bridge at Port Mann, Vancouver, Canada has 200 ft main span and two 360-ft side spans; deck and 12 ft main box girders form integrated structure; submerged arc butt welds were used to prefabricate 82 deck units of 42 tons each for delivery to site; comparison is made with Poplar Street Bridge near St.Louis, Mo, which will be longer having 600 ft main span and overall length of 2165 ft.
