Construction of railway bridge at Boston Manor (Great Britain)
Two-span skew bridge overcrossing highway has reinforced concrete slab supported by six welded steel girders 132 ft long; as it was important to cause minimum interference to heavy railway traffic, bridge deck was constructed on steel trestles parallel to, and about 43 ft away from its final position, and was then rolled-in and jacked down into place; whole work of inserting bridge deck, including track removal and replacement, shifting of surplus earth, and rolling-in, was accomplished during 27 hr shutdown of railway.
