Bridge construction with post-tensioned concrete
Post-tensioned concrete construction method was selected to meet requirement of building twin bridges 585 ft long to carry dual highway across 100 ft deep gorge; design featuring long spans of post-tensioned concrete box girders to be built in cantilever and symmetrically from each side of piers is described; method required that bridge superstructure always be in equilibrium during its construction; by employing post-tensioning it was possible to apply construction method which is currently used in erection of steel bridges.
