Elastic torsional stiffness of prestressed concrete AASHO girders
Torsional stiffness values relating to four prestressed concrete AASHO girders are calculated by use of finite differences; values are calculated for girders themselves and for girders plus 7 in. concrete slabs, both interconnected and acting separately but with girders and slabs rotating through same angle; graphs relating torsional stiffness values to various slab widths are produced, and stiffness values read off graphs may be used directly in design of bridge decks when, for example, Guyon-Massonnet or Hendry and Jaeger load distribution theories are used; Newton's interpolation function is used to calculate torsional shear stresses.
