Removal of old and small double main-line tunnel, 440 yd. long and making open cutting so formed wide enough to take two additional lines on its eastern side; geology of cutting; scheme for demolition of tunnel; accident and demolition of 300 yd. of tunnel arch; extension of retaining wall; numerous slips occurred in sides of cuts.
