If building appropriation is so limited that regular terra cotta cannot be used, "lock-keyed" terra cotta is answer; regular terra cotta is approximately 4 in. thick and averages 26 lb. to sq. ft.; lock-keyed terra cotta approximates 1 1/4 in. in thickness and averages but 15 lb. to sq. ft.; in practice lock-eyed job costs 30 to 40 per cent less than regular terra-cotta job.
