Mines at Portovelo in Zaruma mining district; vertical shaft was originally timbered with ordinary shaft sets of 7-in. timbers placed on 6-ft. centers; chiefly due to rotting of wood, relining became necessary; pre-cast reinforced-concrete members were used, in form of crib; 6 crib sets for each timber set removed; pouring concrete bearers; rock backfill, sometimes with addition of cement grout; some cost data.
