Spencer steelworks
Construction of steelworks at Llanwern, in Monmouthshire, S.Wales, is described; plant is first in world to use exclusively LD steel making process, with 3 converters having capacity of 120 tph each; steel plant, housing new oxygen fed converter, represents entirely new approach in structural engineering; it is multistory building 160 ft high, incorporating massive girders 100 ft long and weighing over 100 tons.
