Rational technology for casting heavy cast iron molds
Report on improving construction of closed-bottom molds for uphill casting of 6.5 ton blooming ingots of killed open hearth alloy steel; in addition optimum chemical composition and microstructure of iron were determined and optimum composition of charge and forming and core mixes selected; all these factors have contributed to reduction of labor and cost of preparation, adequate geometric dimensions and surface cleanness, ease of knock-out and long life. (See also Stal n 2 Feb 1963 p 181-4)
