Ensuring support for 16-storey block by grouting old mine workings
Scheme for special grouting work in apartment building at Gateshead, England, constructed over old coal mine works involved grouting area of 16,200 sq ft; cement-sand grout was fed down series of closely spread holes around perimeter to form dam, and enclosed area was filled by same grout prepared in high speed mixer and fed into cavities by gravity feed through grid of boreholes; fly ash grout was used for pressure grouting at 220 psi, to fill shrinkage planes and any voids left in roof of cavities.
