Glass of various compositions is adaptable for manufacture of artificial stones used in jewelry industry; grinding and partial silvering give glass stones much of brilliance and fire of diamonds, rubies, sapphires, aquamarines, emeralds and opals; semi-precious stones also, such as amethyst, are imitated with colored glass; since even slight impurities and changes in batch can have decisive influence on quality and color of artificial stones, this is dealt with in detail.
