Distribution of stream-flow direction in drainage patterns
On flat surface of homogeneous rock, drainage nets would develop at random, with possibility of stream flow equal in all directions; actual distribution of direction of streams measured in sample basins of dendritic drainage pattern shows close approximation to theoretical random distribution; deviations from this ideal distribution occur in drainage systems where either steeply sloping ground surface or rock schistosity is present.
