Channel widening and flood-plain construction along Cimarron river in southwestern Kansas
Average width of Cimarron River was 50 ft in 1874; during and after major flood of 1914, river widened until average width of 1200 ft was reached in 1942; during period 1943-54 flood-plain construction occurred, and river narrowed to average width of 550 ft in 1954; during period 1954-60 both channel widening and narrowing occurred.
