Prestressed concrete 650-car garage is located at center of 8 multistory dormitories; roof carries 18 in. of carefully landscaped turf, while automobiles are parked underneath on 2 obstruction-free floors; column-free parking area of 248 by 312 ft is divided into 62-ft girder spans with 24-ft slab spans; roof concrete under biaxial prestress becomes practically crack-free so no roofing membrane was applied underneath turf; combination of precasting and in-place concrete and of pretensioning and post-tensioning, 2-dimensional stressing and continuity control of elastic, plastic and shrinkage strains described.
