Hardening of asphalt during production of asphaltic concrete mixes
Physical and chemical changes in asphalt occurring during mixing were studied; penetration and viscosity changes were used as indexes for hardening, and asphaltene and oxygen contents were determined to ascertain colloidal-chemical changes; results were correlated to Bureau of Public Roads thin-film oven test, and its value and potentiality in asphalt durability test are discussed.
