Crack propagation, damage, and fatigue failure of axially loaded deeply notched flat bars in one-step and multiple-step loading; relationships between relative crack length and load cycles were deduced assuming that crack propagation velocity is linear function of acting stress; under some simplifying assumptions, Woehler line equations were obtained; relationships were also derived between preload and damage as well as between multiple-step loading and corresponding number of load cycles at which fracture occurs.
