Starting with concept of "load density", applications of various types of steel construction are examined; member constructions are best suitable for smaller load densities, whereas only three-dimensional full web type constructions, such as shell, box, and folded types can take up greater load densities; special precautions shall be taken in using folded thin-walled tension members at points where forces due to spacing and buckling of compression members are being introduced.
