Spillway for Oahe Dam, Missouri River, South Dakota
Spillway performance was studied using 1:50 scale model, when this structure is control and supercritical flow predominates; shallow (6.5-ft-deep), rectangular stilling basin was developed which dispersed small flows and eliminated surface waves at large flows; also gate operation schedule was developed which, together with shallow basin, comprised optimum method of controlling flows on apron downstream until submergence occurred.
