Triaxial testing with large-scale high pressure equipment
Discussion of procedures used and results of triaxial shear tests on proposed embankment materials for Oroville Dam, Calif, at lateral pressures up to 650 psi and on specimens of up to 12-in. diam; three of five samples were derived from fine screenings and from coarse tailings remaining as dredging deposits in old gold workings; two samples were from natural alluvial deposit; decrease in slope of Mohr's failure envelope for sandy and gravelly soils, and reason for it, and absence of decrease with clayey and silty materials are discussed.
