High-pressure-triaxial tests on compacted sand and undisturbed silt
Importance of studying strength and deformation properties of soils at high pressures in connection with increasing height of earth and rockfill dams is noted; procedures and results are reported for triaxial tests on Cannonsville silt, obtained from foundation of Cannonsville Dam near Deposit, NY, and on minus No. 10 sieve portion of sandy gravel excavated from glacial outwash deposit; new triaxial apparatus designed and built at Harvard University on basis of experience gained in high pressure triaxial testing is described in appendix.
