Bearing capacity of diluvial gravelly sand deposits
Density of deposition and number of blows (N) in penetration test in diluvial gravelly sand are larger than those in alluvial gravelly sand; in dense gravelly sand deposit, angle of internal friction tends to decrease as normal pressure becomes very large; ultimate bearing capacity of deep foundation is much greater than strength of substructure; for range of loads usually encountered in practice, load settlement relationship of foundations supported by deep gravelly sand deposit is more elastic compared with that of shallow foundations.
