Geotechnical properties of three Ontario clays
Results of mineralogical and engineering tests performed on clay soils from Ottawa, New Liskeard, and Fort William, Ontario; clay minerals identified in fine fractions of soils are illite, iron, and aluminum chlorite, and variable amounts of vermiculite and montmorillonite-like mineral; adsorbed aluminum and iron hydroxide cations may have altered vermiculite in some cases to more swelling clay and in some cases to nonswelling chlorite; borehole log for each site and summary of routine engineering tests.
