Orientation of fissures in stiff overconsolidated clay of Siwalik system
Measurements of attitude of fissures in stiff-fissured overconsolidated clay bedrock and technique of stereographic projection, point and contour diagrams used to portray their attitude; this technique was used on Siwalik clay of Pakistan to investigate directions of orientation of fissures which could act as paths of weakness for failure surfaces in dam foundations and deep excavations; both random and preferred orientations of fissures were found, latter appearing to be related to local fault, shear and fold pattern of bedrock.
