It is noted that evolution of modern ice breaker dates from about 1870, and that this information is taken from last paper (1899) specifically on subject to be presented to Royal Institution and that there has been so much development in intervening 65 yr that present paper is offered as comprehensive review; folding sheets give general particulars of ice breakers built in 1900 to 1931, and from 1932 to new buildings due in 1964.
