Construction of siphon under Saone river in Lyon
Siphon consists of four prestressed concrete sections, each 60 m long, containing two tubes of 2.30 m diam; sections were prefabricated in nearby sheet pile enclosure which was pumped dry during concreting; after completion, tube openings were sealed, enclosure was filled with water, floating section was towed to building site, and lowered into pre-dug bed by opening water cocks provided in tube seals; work on concrete foundation slabs and joints was done by divers; work did not cause any interruption of navigation.
