Stochastic model for predicting subsidence
Stochastic model for predicting subsidence of granular medium is presented; explicit expressions for average subsidence and variance of subsidence are derived, as functions of statistics of particle size distribution and angle of repose of medium under consideration; time is eliminated as variable by examining subsidence only after motion has ceased; analogy of problem to certain results in theory of Brownian motion is explained.
