Application of photoelastic transducers to load measurement in building foundations
Application of photoelastic transducers in form of stressmeters and earth pressure cells to specific foundation problem is discussed; design and development of measurement technique, based on use of transducers, to measure pile and raft loads under tall building, standing on London clay is described; to study load distribution in piles, four stressmeters were installed in each of three selected piles, one on center of raft and two at edges; pressure of clay on underside of raft was measured by three specially developed cells.
