Bearing capacity and unconsolidated undrained triaxial test
Analysis is made of mechanics of shear test and justification for its use in calculating bearing capacity is examined; it is concluded that unconsolidated undrained shear strength may be used for calculation of bearing capacity on both short term and long term basis except where ultimate position of water table lies above founding level, and where foundation soil is in highly desiccated condition at time of construction; long term stability of foundation on heavily over-consolidated clay.
