Mechanics of deep underground explosions
Model of deep underground chemical explosion is analogous to model of underwater explosion, and refers to dynamic expansion of spherical cavity in plastic-elastic, incompressible, ideal soil of infinite extent; expansion of cavity is large and rapid, with surrounding soil undergoing plastic deformation; amplitudes of any subsequent pulsations are small; features of explosion depend on type of soil and on depth.
