Structural design criteria for ehv transmission towers is outlined; alternate configurations are considered in relation to cost factors; maximum loading conditions are noted, and application of maximum, or elastic limit, design is examined; maximum design formulas are presented with related comments on their application; full scale tower test results are shown and provide design verification; high strength steel was used where costs were favorable.
