Remodeling and relighting of basement kitchen of 60-yr old house into modern kitchen and dining area, while preserving its original Spanish character, is described; important feature of remodeling to be considered in lighting design, was decorative 5-ft dado of Spanish tile; to preserve its character required special methods of lighting which are described; results achieved are charming atmosphere, in harmony with Spanish decor, and illumination levels in accord with good lighting practice; lighting is flexible for every occasion.
