Calculation of consolidation rates of laminated, varved or layered clays, with particular reference to sand drains
General mathematical solution to problem of consolidation rate of stratified soil draining to lateral boundary has been developed to form suitable for engineering application; calculated values of overall coefficient of consolidation in horizontal direction vary widely with structure of deposit and size of sample; cost of sand drain installation is inversely proportional to size of coefficient of consolidation adopted for design.
