A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Design of barge docks used for moving bulk materials to and from land facilities is discussed; economies of available types of construction are compared, taking into account river bottom conditions, river level fluctuations, and availability of natural materials; governmental functions in control of river operating conditions by system of locks and dams are reviewed as they affect dock design and operation; consideration is given to design of mooring and fendering devices, barge shifters, and mooring hardware.
