Sealing-off permeable foundation base of Pinios-Ilias (Greece) dam
Description of Rodio-Marconi technique for establishing watertight diaphragms at great depths; 1257 m long 60 cm wide reinforced concrete diaphragm starts at base of dam core and extends 20 m below base level; in technique described, trench is excavated by means of bentonite mud recirculated by drilling machine moving successively in transversal and longitudinal direction; after installation of reinforcement, trench is filled with concrete.
