Post-construction deflocculation as contributory factor in failure of earth dams
Mechanism of failure proposed envisages two alternative forms of failure -- that due to piping through body of dam and, alternatively, that due to slumping or slipping due to progressive softening from upstream face; characteristics of susceptible and nonsusceptible soils, electrolyte characteristics contributing to failure, chemical treatment of soils to prevent deflocculation, evidence of actual or potential failures of earth dams.
