Development of arch action in arch dams
Considering hydrostatic pressure as only external load on arch dam, influence of reservoir elevation and elastic deformability of foundations is investigated using crown cantilever method; arch and cantilever action are evaluated on basis of shear and moment criterion, representing relative magnitude of hydrostatic loads carried by arches and cantilevers; structural behavior of dam was studied on basis of radial displacement of crown cantilever, hydrostatic load distribution, and stresses in arches and cantilevers.
