Geologic reconnaissance of west creek damsite near Skagway, Alaska
West Creek damsite is well situated topographically for concrete arch or gravity dam; left abutment is formed by low bedrock ridge extending into center of valley from north wall, and right abutment is essentially part of south valley wall; stream has cut relatively deep and narrow gorge into bedrock of strong massive homogeneous granodiorite capable of supporting dam of any practical size; dam should be designed to withstand earthquakes of maximum severity; construction materials available in area.
