A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Work in progress on eight flood control dams and locks is reviewed; each dam comprises two 41 ft wide sluiceways which are closed by steel gates; under flood conditions gates together with shutters can be raised to above highest water level; gates are in form of platesteel boxes of trapezoidal cross section and strengthened with stiffeners; gates and girders are all-welded; lock gates, portal frames, gate drives, and valves for flooding lock chambers are described and illustrated; measures for protection against corrosion are discussed.
