Thick walled cylinder submitted to uniformly distributed internal and external pressures and to uniformly distributed longitudinal load is considered; graphical construction is established allowing determination of whether material does or does not remain elastic under this state of loads, or selection of value of one pressure with view to maximizing another without cylinder undergoing plastic deformation; 3 different constructions are given corresponding to use of criteria of Von Mises, Tresca, and of linearized form of intrinsic curve of Mohr-Caquot.
