For first 2 buildings of University of Sussex, near Brighton, England, architectural theme of recurring arches and vaults has been met economically by precast vault and beam unit of reinforced concrete; vaulted beams with spans of 10, 15 and 20 ft are used; soffits of vaults are left as smooth clean concrete as obtained from steel mold; precast beams that span 40 ft in pairs provide support for vaulted beams; feature of College House is 2-story refractory block wth rounded arch roof and 2 glass walls.
