Application of yieldable steel mine arches to previously uncontrollable roof problem, even with roof bolting, at central Pennsylvania coal mine; sudden and extensive collapses called pressure caves in roof were encountered in advanced developments; successful use of yieldable arches in straight line entries and cross cuts led to design of special graduated size sets for use in intersections; pressure caves were stopped completely when they encountered yieldable arches installation.
