Aluminium embedded in building mortars and plasters -- Tenyear tests
Test results indicate that aluminum base materials normally used in building are resistant to corrosion by range of mortars and plasters even under moist conditions; more highly alloyed Al alloys, notably those containing Cu, are more severely attacked in some plasters; corrosion products formed may be sufficiently voluminous to develop compressive stresses which can cause cracking of mortar or plaster; desirability of protective barrier (e.g. bitumen) between embedded aluminum and mortar or plaster is confirmed.
