Plate girders with high-strength steel flanges and carbon steel webs
Results of tests on welded plate girders with 100,000 psi yield point construction alloy steel flanges and ASTM A36 carbon steel webs; tests were made on 2 specimens by subjecting them to moment and shear loading; deflection, buckling, and yielding characteristics of specimens discussed; results indicate that hybrid girders of type tested can function satisfactorily under static load when properly designed; these girders are best suited for long spans in which ratio of live load to total load is small.
