Four methods for predicting durability of roofing asphalts
Four laboratory procedures (asphaltene content, filtration time, solubility parameter, and carbonyl index) for predicting durability of 24 coating-grade roofing asphalts as determined in accelerated-weathering machines were studied; durability tended to vary directly with filtration time, and inversely with solubility parameter, asphaltene content, and carbonyl index; there was scatter in data in all of correlations, but asphalts tended to be grouped according to source of crudes from which they were obtained.
