Results of 4 static tests on 2 welded constructional alloy steel plate girders; girders were proportioned so that shear failure would be obtained; shear strength theory based on development of tension field action is reviewed, and its applicability to girders made of steel with high yield point is checked with test results; theory can be applied to girders made of any structural steel.
